She Does | She Says | She Thinks |Ari
Leilani made her way through the mini forest of palm trees as they blocked the sun's rays from hitting her form. Other than the initial section of forest she had woken in, this was one of the only other spots where she even had a chance of being comfortable. She was used to the soft floor of a true forest, but this semblance of familiarity filled her soul with peace.
The air was still around her. Only the cries of the birds that lived in the limbs of these trees resonated around her. Lifting her nose to the sky, she inhaled and through that one breath she smelled many things that made her happy. First and the most important, at least according to her, was the presence of many herbs and plants that she knew were important for healing. Only some she could smell, but she did know of plants that tended to grow under the same conditions, so if a couple of them were here then the other types must also thrive in this climate.
She initially new nothing of healing when she started living the life of a loner. Most of her training was just etiquette and the basics of fighting if she ever needed to protect herself. But she learned just how important healers are. If she had a healer when she woke up, then the pain wouldn't have been as bad. The healer would have given her something to chew on. But even the limited fighting skills she had helped when battling vultures. The infernal birds were circling her as she walked as if they were expecting her to drop dead right then and there. She looked like she was about to at least, what with all the blood and flesh on display. She wouldn't even be surprised to find out that some had a taste while she was out cold. Some of the cheeky little buggers even had the audacity to try to pick off some bits while she was alive, but a taste of her claws put then straight.
Second, was the sent of prey that invaded her senses. This mini-forest was a herbivore's paradise and she could smell various types of small prey going about their daily business, but giving a wide berth to the femme that was now walking amongst them. She would have loved nothing more than to lose herself in the thrill of the hunt, but as much as she loved the adrenaline, her mind was still apprehensive about the whole thing. After all, it was a hunt, of sorts, that ripped her brother's life away.
Do we really have to go through this again? You are instinctively a carnivore, you need meat to survive. Fish is fine, but you are getting a little thin of late and it is not a good thing. You need to put away this sill fear of yours and get some real meat in your system.
Leilani did not respond. She understood that what Ari said was the truth, but she still didn't want to do it. Her head was filled with an inordinate amount of what if's.
"What if-"
What if nothing. Here's what you are going to do. You are going to find a nice plump rabbit and kill it. Then you will eat to your heart's content. You will do this or so help me go, I will show you just how annoying a voice in your head can be.
Defeated, Leilani proceeded to carry out Ari's orders. She stood perfectly still, and scanned the forest around her. Ears perked she listen for any noise that would alert her to the position of her prey.
