Here We Go Again [Ohnar]

[attr="class","pltxt"]He could hardly believe that Adair was here, but he forced himself to believe it. Because from what little he knew of her she was definitely who she said she was and he needed to give her some space. Besides, since waking up, he had sated his thirst and not his hunger. While taking down some young animal or something larger would have fit with his stature more he had learned how to be agile and quick enough to catch smaller prey. His father had trained him thoroughly even if he couldn't train everything out of him. The wolves he had met earlier seemed nice and he had no reason to think that he needed to hover over Adair as if he had a given right to be by her side. While the crush was not completely gone he was not as mad as he was when he was younger and he was able to trust the other wolves around here enough not to attack her. He didn't think about if they did too hard, the male would have attack them, not kill them but make sure that they knew their advances were unwanted.

He was stalking the area, trying to detect prey when he found it. An obese rabbit, it was too large to be as fast as the others and he marveled at how it had grown to such a girth but he was not going to question his luck in finding it. Grinning he moved his paws softly across the earth not wanting to reveal himself through sight, sound, smell, or vibration. Approaching it so that it both did not see his shadow as well as not smell his presence on the wind was a difficult feat. Deciding that scent was more important than sight he approached so that the rabbit would not detect his smell. Then before his shadow touched it he paused. The silly thing seemed unperturbed despite his presence. Knowing he only had a second before it registered his shadows and disappeared along with his chance of a quick meal he used that single step to propel his mass into the dive. It skittered away and he scrambled trying to be faster than the hare. He didn't manage but his teeth clipped onto the long, extended, mid-jump, back leg and a small crunch told him the leg was broken.

Rabbits had nails but as he dragged the thing by the leg back towards him so that he could properly finish the job it struggled all the way trying to get at his sensitive nose. Batting at his muzzle he reared his head, but it couldn't move nearly as efficiently with a broken hind leg and he caught it again, this time able to strike a killing blow. Picking up his kill the male swung his head around before deciding to trot off into the shade to enjoy his meal. It was a novelty to him that he could do so, mostly he would have had to fight over even the scraps of a meal with a hungry pack but being able to take his time to enjoy the food in a safe place was a luxury he was not going to waste. Now that his initial endeavor was complete he tramped about without much care for the noise his bulk made.

That is until he stumbled into Leilani, he had met her earlier and dropped his kill in order to give her a smile and a greeting. "Hello, I'm Ohnar from the last time we met." His smile didn't falter as he asked as politely as he could, not trying to pry information of her that she didn't want to give but also trying to pick something gneric enough it wasn't considered rude and so that if she needed any assistance hew ould be there for her "What are you doing here?" Waiting for the answer he knew that the rabbit was at his paws but he didn't care right then because the wolf was much more interesting.

[attr="class","pltxt"]The male took the situation in and then realized he had interrupted her hunt. Feeling properly abashed he tried to flash her a winning smile, glad that she remembered him and he had a good natured companion. Nudging his own catch towards her he affably let the lie slip off of his lips “Here, have mine, I’m not very hungry anyways.” Perhaps it was that he had always been naturally amicable or having to share everything with that pack that urged him to make the offer but he didn’t regret it in the slightest. The rabbit was a magnificent catch, but meeting other wolves and keeping them happy was important as well. Besides, it seemed like most of them that had been there were strangers to this land, and while he trusted himself well enough to adapt to the surrounding hunting climate he naturally felt a little more protective over other wolves. Smiling he tried to think of something that kept the conversation going. He wasn’t offended by her silence but took it as boredom, while he didn’t want to think of himself as boring he had barged in on her so the least he could do was offer her quality company.
A smile still on his face he asked her, tentatively testing how personal he could get as she had answered his first question with ease and kindness “So, where are you from?” He tilted his head and then looked around, revealing his own answer to the question first. Not because he liked to hear himself talk, but rather because he felt as if it was a personal question he could take the first leap. It wasn’t as if his story was anything special anyways “The humans moved me here from the main land, before that I was the son to the alpha but I wasn’t going to take the position anyways.” He tried for an open sort of grin. He didn’t want her to distance herself because she thought he might be holding onto those dredges of authority, he had always rather be comrades with his pack mates, except when they did things he didn’t want to be a part of, than overlord.

[attr="class","pltxt"]Ohnar shrugged, he didn't particularly care if the female didn't want to take him up his offer. While he would have been happy to share he never doubted her ability as a huntress. He found she was able to hunt something with much more ease than he could manage for a smaller animal and he longed to go after something larger, but for now this would sate him. He waited to consume it until she returned and when she did he laid down, it was not that he felt protected in her presence but rather he felt no fear of her despite her slightly larger weight that indicated if they took to throwing their masses around he wasn't necessarily going to win.

Taking a bite out of his rabbit he didn't bother to be delicate about it as he tore at the meat with his carnals in the back of his jaw. The blood and the meat that was still warm and fresh enticed him but he smiled at his company and commented as politely as he could despite the bits of sinew and spots of blood that dotted his muzzle "You're a very good huntress." He observed her, simply to do it.

She wasn't ugly but she didn't make his heart race, he barely bothered to fight the fact that he now made comparisons anymore. It had been a part of his life for too long for him to consider the placid grey of Leilani's gaze to the flame in Adair's and as he bolted down the majority of his rabbit he noticed the grey colouration of one eye that indicated she was blind. He had noticed it earlier but not asked. He wondered if she would tell him eventually, but didn't press the subject at the moment. He knew that they had barely gotten past introductions at that point.

[attr="class","pltxt"]Ohnar smiled, trying to be comforting in his appearance, because his semi-large frame and energetic demeanor screamed comfort and tranquility. The choice was like that for many wolves, and while he had either to learn and fit to his father’s mold or be treated the way that his pack treated outsiders or become one willingly. He supposed that he only had Adair to thank for pushing him in the right direction, and giving him the courage to walk away before being in that pack had sapped him of his strength any longer.
When the female continued to speak to him he listed to her intently but the words coming out of her maw didn’t make any sense to the male. Ohnar was under no delusions that he was the most intelligent wolf in the world, but he knew what he had heard and though he could sense something private about it he didn’t want to pry. Many wolves had things that lay within their past, and perhaps something he had done or said had triggered this response. He finished gulping down his rabbit, using that time to think about how to approach the scenario, he did want to know and he wanted to know about Leilani herself because he was kind and it was something that he would do because he believed that some wounds were fixable even if he was a fool for it.
“What am I on for?” He laced humor into his words which wasn’t difficult for him, he was naturally much more light hearted than serious. He was serious about Adair though, and protecting her, not that he would ever admit it even though every action showed it. The question as open ended, giving her an escape route. He didn’t mean to cage her in and yet he didn’t want her to feel as if he didn’t care because it was just like to care about other wolves. To want them to be happy, to provide them someone who was in their corner when they were down and a smile for when they were successful. Dance was not always pretty and sometimes crashing down to the earth had a larger impact that rising up and down from his hindlegs as he spun patters in the dirt.

[attr="class","pltxt"]Ohnar let out a sharp laugh at her words, not because he didn’t believe her but because it was something that no one would ever admit to in such blatant language. He admired her courage, he didn’t think her crazy. Even if he did he didn’t think that it would result in violent outbursts or anything that he truly needed to be worried about. She would have hurt him already, he convinced himself, besides she had showed more civility in the short time he had known her than his packmates had at times. He shut his eyes and tried to lighten the situation, offering his own sort of truth “Well good for you, some may say that I lack that voice, I never really had anyone looking out for me like that.” His brother and he had been good friends, comrades, but not….there was not that aspect to their relationship and so it had crumbled when he had wanted sympathy and support in defending Adair the relationship was never meant to support that. He forced a grin to curve up onto his features he realized that he was addressing two creatures at once he responded “Hello to you as well.” Glancing towards Leilani he realized that he couldn’t help but talk over whatever voice was in her head.
While it was terrible manners he supposed that it couldn’t be avoided and he tried to stay as amiable as possible “And what does your friend think of our little rendezvous?” He said it with a laugh tinging his words as was his custom. Ohnar didn’t mean anything suggestive about the phrasing, but he did want to sound somewhat conspiratorial. He didn’t think that she was pulling his leg, and didn’t want her to think that he wasn’t taking her seriously, but at the same time his nature came out to reveal the just how laze faire he could be about the situation while trying to make her feel more at ease with revealing herself.

[attr="class","pltxt"]He tried to gauge her expression, there was little to suggest that she had two warring minds within her and he thought that was slightly perplexing. He wasn’t sure he had met anyone with that particular affliction but she supposed that if they were all like Leilani then he wouldn’t know anyways. He wondered if when he died he would go visit his brother’s mind if the other male was still alive. He hesitated at that thought. He wouldn’t want to spend the rest of eternity with his brother of all wolves. He could think of other wolves that would be much better company but they were family after all. He couldn’t help but wonder at that. Adair had criticized him for abandoning his family but he didn’t think that she could understand. He almost smiled at that thought, if anyone had the right to complain about lack of sympathy then it was her but he wasn’t about to go pitying her she didn’t need it and she sure as hell didn’t want it. He doubted she wanted much to do with him at this point but he couldn’t tear himself away. He wasn’t the type of male to force himself on a female and although the desire for her was not something he could dim he could at least have the courtesy not to act on it.

Which may seem odd as that was all he had done for awhile. Acted on his desire in an all consuming way to see her to know where she was that she was safe. He didn’t want her hurt. Leilani spoke and he snapped to attention. She was at least softening it for him, the blow but at the same time he thought he understood her brother’s tendency to protect his sister. He thought that he would protect his brother if he saw the other wolf wrongly attacked. He wouldn’t wish revenge. Even if the vision of Adair falling beneath fangs brought something akin to fury within his limbs that brought out the training in him. He wasn’t a warrior, he wasn’t a fighter but he knew how to be. He wondered if he had been born into a place where he was taught how to dance if he would be so different. He hoped not, he appreciated, he really did, the things that he ahd taught and had learned that allowed him to survive but it didn’t make it less hard.

”I hope so.” He said lightly, turning the subject back to Leilani he asked hesitantly “I hope at least you’re enjoying my company.” He liked spending time with her but she didn’t want to impose.
