Rowan knew his days of childish play were coming to an end. There was a degree of melancholic nostalgia that accompanied the thought, but the predominant emotion was by far excitement. He could not wait until he would be named to a rank in the pack. He believed he was ready to take on some responsibility. He also knew if he had voiced that thought out loud around Ophelia, she would have scoffed at him, but what did she know anyway? She had been somewhat cold towards him lately, and he was inclined to treat her in kind.
But those were exactly the thoughts he was trying to avoid as he skirted the borders between the two territories that Aludri held. There was still snow on the ground here despite the fact it was summer. There was a light dusting that extended from the tree line into the frozen wasteland ahead. It was not nearly as frigid as when he had been up this direction last, before the move to the isles. He had run into two wolves up here that he could remember, though potentially more. He had also once when he was young traveled up this way with Arche and Hannibal, he remembered.
It took Rowan longer to pick up on the scent of the Athair than he would have if he hadn’t been lost in a memory that involved him. It seemed to fit well with the memory as it played in his mind, rather than alert him to the presence of another. When it did begin to feel a little too real, Rowan’s face pulled a look of confusion and he glanced around eagerly. Was this perhaps his chance to approach the alpha about wanting to be placed into a rank in the pack? Or was that not his place to do? He took a deep breath and turned around standing up straight, looking straight ahead, almost expecting him to emerge from the trees at any moment.
