[attr="class","post"]Far’s paws were silent on the rocky crags of Belashi Butte. Her breath hitched in her throat, the only sign of the effort it took to reach this altitude. All around her, round rock formations rose like morbid red trees. The large stones seemed to float with little support. She skirted around each one, stopping occasionally to mark the desolate territory with her scent. She moved like a mottled shadow in the dips and rises of stone until she was at the edge. She looked out, red eyes scanning the russet landscape; the steep drop of the canyon would make most wolves dizzy, but the black femme stared at the drop without faulter. The color of the canyon was reflected in her red eyes.
It had been two weeks. Two weeks since Xisyn had a King. Two weeks since Far had sensed Saul’s presence. He was not gone for good, she knew, but the wolves of Sethos may need a little more faith in their leadership. We can’t have anyone flaking out on us, now, she thought with a slight curve of her lip. Tilting her head back to the overcast sky, Far let her voice call them to her. If they answered, she would reassure them that Sethos was alive and well, that she would carry the weight of Queen without the need of a King by her side, that their mission was about to take a turn in the right direction. Her howl tapered and cut off, letting the last of its noise bounce and echo off the stone.
Every rock around her belonged to them. This is where they hunted, where they tested their strength, where they grew stronger with every passing day. Xisyn was theirs, even in Saul’s absence. And I will make sure all of Anikira knows it.
