Now during the height of the summer was the best time to explore Cryothia. It was still cold, though not nearly so bitter, and the sun shone during the day, soaking into his dark fur and warming him, as long as there was no wind blowing past him removing the warmth faster than he could soak it in. He did have to admit that the deep icy blue of Cryothia in various areas was quite beautiful. Very different from the green forests and plains of Shyia. It was strange how two territories so nearby could remain so different. And Nal’Eny itself was a sight. The caverns Rowan were used to were pitch black. It was impossible to see much of anything. But here all the walls were lit, brightening his path. While the sun’s warmth could not reach him here, neither could the winds, so he found it comfortable enough, though his paw pads were half numb from the frozen stoney ground he walked on.
He thought briefly of Ophelia and how much she would enjoy exploring this with him. At least here it would not be easy for them to accidentally startle themselves by bumping into each other and not knowing what they had hit. He missed his best friend, but she had been somewhat cold to him of late. But even without Ophelia, Rowan noticed he might not be entirely alone. There was a lingering scent of another wolf. A scent he was quite familiar with, though he had not smelled it in quite some time.
Always the independent self-starter who needed to figure things out for himself, Rowan had all but neglected his family. He and his brother were fairly close and had had the opportunity recently to catch up, but he had not spoken to his sisters or his parents almost since being old enough to leave the den on his own, and he had never looked back. Still, sometimes he wondered what had become of all of them. He had to roll his eyes when thinking of Harpy and how bossy she had been when they were little. Lyra and Sirius had tried too hard to keep the peace, but Rowan had determined he was not going to let her get away with it where he could help it. He did not dislike Harpy, quite far from it. Sometimes he enjoyed their mildly annoyed banter and disputes. But it seemed they were not destined to be fast friends. So when he picked up her scent, Rowan was unsure whether to be pleased or feign disappointment and annoyance. But he continued to venture further into Nal’Eny, not just exploring but now also hoping to run into his sibling.

Notes: I'm so excited for them!! If I read correctly, Harpy is learning of Calantha's death from Rikez, correct? Rowan still hasn't heard IC, so if you want to pass that along at some point in this thread, I wouldn't mind. =)
