Summer has finally arrived! The sun has melted the snows in the north and the southern territories are beginning to grow uncomfortably hot and dry. Pups are being born and life seems to finally be getting back to normal after the cure for the disease was found. But how long will it last?
The cure has been found! Wolves on Anikira are recovering from the disease and life is moving forward with the promise of pups in many packs. And yet darkness looms on the horizon, daring the creatures of Anikira to relax and allow themselves to get comfortable once more.
The time spent with Dione made Hyperion even more determined to make things between the allies better. How could one call themselves an ally when they didn't even offer the help. Ananke was more firmly established than Vasilios but Hyperion was still keen to offer the idea to Nimue. Kairos had more than enough in their ranks to allow wolves to train with them. Besides it would give everyone a chance to develop some comradery with the other packs. Kairos was an isolated pack and they had no tolerance for trespassers on their lands. This would open them up to meeting more wolves upon the continent. Hyperion was also curious about other fighting styles that were not present in his own pack. He was still young and could admit that he had plenty of room to grow. Especially with Xerxes gone he had no mentor to train with anymore. He hoped that would all change very soon though. He had plenty of family and trusted pack mates that he could spar with. He even looked forward to sparring with some of the warriors from Vasilios and Ananke.
For now though he was determined to find Inara. He had smelled her scent upon arriving here and knew that she could be useful. Since he was headed off to Ananke to see Nimue he would need someone to take a message back to his generals. They would all need to be aware of the plans that he intended for them. Otherwise there was danger of misunderstandings occurring between the packs. Even though they were allies it was not common for them to trespass. Still he figured the emissary would be pleased to have the chance to use her skills. She was small and swift and would make it to Vor'asa in no time. Once all of the generals were aware they could start making preparations for wolves to mentor. Between that and the Agoge they would have their hands full. Calling out across the land he waited for some sort of response form her. It would be rotten luck if he had missed her by just a hair. Especially when he would not be back home for another week at least. He had every intention of getting to know his nieces and nephews, and the brute that Nimue had settled with. No one was good enough for his sisters, but he supposed that it was too late for that now. Considering that she was a mother now, his opinion didn't matter.
Still he was excited for this new litter. They were his family, even though they were sadly too far away for him to see regularly. His duty was to Kairos and he did not know if he would be able to travel like this ever again. While he trusted his generals to keep the pack running he was still uneasy. Should anything happen to them in his absence he knew that he would never forgive them. Sitting in the shadow of the great volcano he waited for some indication that Inara had heard his call. He could not remain here for very long for his time was limited. Of course Inara had never failed in her duties before so he would not doubt her now.
[attr="class","pltxt"] Inara had been traveling with Wenhaver for a day or two now, and they were just about to approach the shore up ahead, past North Ignier, that would provide them the quickest swim to Ina’mos. Her wounds had been getting worse. They were covered in a thick crusty substance but were still seeping both blood and pus. It couldn’t be comfortable to have that all over her face, but if it bothered her, she gave no indication that that was the case. Still, Inara would feel better once her wounds had been treated.
They had hit it off surprisingly well, given how standoffish and stubborn the two of them could both be. But in this case, Inara found that similarities attracted, rather than opposites. They understood each other in a way that Inara was pretty sure no other wolf had ever understood her. Even Fawn, as much as Inara had admired and appreciated Fawn, didn’t seem to understand that side of Inara the same way. She could understand it conceptually, perhaps, but not experientially.
There was one thing that had especially struck Inara, however, and that was the constant mention of Wenhaver’s sister. Inara had not thought anything of it at first, but every time her unknown sister came back up, it felt uncomfortably familiar. It didn’t help to settle her overactive imagine that they were similarly sized and colored as well. Inara was sure she was just making up some sort of connection between her and this she-wolf, but she could not shake the feeling. Surely being exiled was a more common occurrence than she was letting on? Although she had not known anyone in Kairos to be exiled in her years here.
Inara’s ears twisted back as she heard a familiar call. Despite the fact that Wenhaver was not in the middle of saying anything, Inara found herself instinctually responding with a “Shhh!” before she continued with “Did you hear that?” Inara immediately set off in the direction of the call. Was Hyperion going to be upset she had been gone? She had merely been paying their allies in Ananke a visit, without direction or their knowledge, but wasn’t she supposed to keep tabs on their allies?
“Hyperion,” she greeted with a nod as she approached the Emperor. He towered over her, as most of the wolves in Kairos did, to be honest. But she felt especially small in front of the Emperor. She might have years and experience on him, but he obviously had rank and size in his favor. And she had experienced first hand what happened when one was disrespectful of an alpha, and she did not wish to repeat that with Kairos. She had built herself a life here and didn’t not feel the desire to part with it. "You called?"
It took her a moment to remember to introduce her new acquaintance. With a quick glance to make sure Wenhaver had followed her, she spoke, "This is Wenhaver. We were on our way to Ina'mos to see a healer."
It didn't take long for him to hear the approach of paw steps. The surprising thing was that it was more than one set of paws. Two females, one his emissary and one that had a shocking amount of scars on her face. The fact that they oozed and pussed from her scars made him a little wary for her safety. The fact that Inara was considering taking her to a healer on Ina'mos made him feel a little better. The fact that they were still so open was something he did not envy. The salt water would burn when they hit her raw and ragged flesh. Still he could not worry about her own safety now. He was on his way to see Nimue to discuss terms of their alliance and he had a task for her to do. Of course dropping Wenhaver off to get care was of the first priority. "It is lucky that we are both here. I have a task for you." Dione had already agreed to his terms and he hoped that Nimue would as well. It would be a great chance for them all to develop as allies and as a pack. Hyperion wanted to make them all stronger.
Of course he didn't have time to return and inform all the generals while he was on his way out to Aveline. It would also take him a long time to travel back to Ina'mos. By the time he returned he wanted their allies to be there and training. He also wanted a few wolves to be able to travel to Aveline and Acerbus so that they could train together. "Inara I want you to return to Vor'asa, Ale'ina, and Ser'eri and inform the generals of something. I am planning to discuss a mentoring opportunity to Nimue, Dione has already agreed. I am opening up our lands to the wolves of Vassilios and Ananke so they can come and learn from our wolves. I also would like the generals to organize a wolf who can travel to Aveline and Acerbus to help train them. I will return to assist with the mentoring as soon as my business is done in Aveline. Of course all of this can wait until you have gotten Wenhaver's wounds treated to. Is she planning to remain in Kairos?" Hyperion would not deny her the chance at medical care if she needed it, but he was also curious about what Inara was doing with this random wolf.
Dried blood mixed with fresh blood upon Wenhaver's face, trailing over the crusted corners of the wounds, and painting her fur with the traces of the blood. It was mixed with the unpleasant sight of puss, though it had stung and thrummed with pain, Wenhaver's features did not show any of it - though she thought even if she had wanted to, she wouldn't be able to. It had long sing numbed now, falling short on the first night, and now, it was the second day, and her face was practically numb.
The gruff she wolf had not gotten what she wanted yet, for Inara seemingly didn't make any connection. Wenhaver knew that there was a possibility that she wasn't correct, but she knew better than to distrust her gut. It was telling her there was more to this than just strangers, that there was something pulling the familial tug in Wenhaver towards the other she wolf. She just had to make a comment that was enough to see if something in Inara clicked.
Her ears flicked forward in distaste upon Inara's comments, for she hadn't even been talking, but Wenhaver simply grunted. There had been a call in the air, yes, but it was not one she could call familiar. Seemingly, they were going towards the sound, and Wenhaver supposed the owner of the call was one that Inara knew. Trailing after the she wolf, Wenhaver's mismatched eyes watched with disinterest towards the surrounding area.
A hulking body of brown happened to be their destination, and Wenhaver flicked her tail, the thought in her mind, would this one think himself a God too? The large wolf that had given her the mangled wounds on her face had been ill of mind she knew, and had no appreciated her blunt, disobedient comments towards his self proclamation. He may have been a damn King to someone, but he had not been her King, nor her God, and she wouldn't have acted like it.
When Inara introduced her and their intentions, Wenhaver dipped her head in greeting and respect towards the hulking wolf, supposing that this was the girls leader. Once more she went back to no words, her scratchy, not often used voice staying dormant in her throat as the two passed words back and forth. Hyperion did not turn his nose up at her appearance, nor did he comment on the disgusting blood and puss, and for a moment, Wenhaver thought herself thankful. He was straight to the point, and not at all beating around the bush.
His words meant little to her as they reached her ears, but she supposed they would be important to Inara and for Kairos. He spoke of names she did not know, but she took them in and would put them to her memory. She was not a stupid wolf, despite others assumption of that with the fact she did not talk much. Wenhaver was a watcher, she wasn't a talker. It was with his last words that Wenhaver's mismatched eyes went from the two wolves a few times, the usual disinterested, daunting look upon her mangled features. She supposed it would be proper for her to answer him, though her throat protested. "It hadn't been my intention to join a Pack," scratchy and gruff, Wenhaver knew that perhaps she was only wanting to join Kairos to find out the truth about Inara - she didn't truly want to touch on the subject to herself that she longed for a Pack that was different to her birth one.
"But my intentions have shifted," she spoke in small and forward sentences, not hiding anything with false pretenses or sweet as honey tones. "If you'll have me, that is." The mangled she wolf knew there was a great chance that he would turn her away, she was not much but scarring and monotone words, not at first glance. She was a killer, though, unable to be phased by blood and fighting, by death and darkness. Her speciality had developed into the art of silent killing, not on a battle field, but in ones own place of safety. Her mind was dangerous and willing, but for this large brown wolf, Wenhaver did not take him to be a first-handed judgemental fuck. "Inara spoke highly of Kairos," she added as a latter thought, the last word being cut off by her voice falling short, the scratchiness taking victory.
Inara could see Hyperion looking over Wenhaver and wondered for a moment if she should not have suggested bringing Wenhaver to Ina’mos. It was only natural that there should be no outsiders on the Kairos home island. And what right did a loner have to treatment from a pack? Of course, Wenhaver had given Inara at least a slight indication that she was open to joining Kairos, and Inara had hoped that showing her around the pack might convince her to stay. It was rare for Inara to find a wolf who did not rub her the wrong way, and only natural that she should want that wolf to stick around.
Instead of first addressing Wenhaver, however, Hyperion jumped down to business, and Inara hoped that meant he had no problem with her continuing on to Ina’mos with Wenhaver. She nodded and listened intently to his plans, her face betraying no emotion. Of course, the conversation came back around to Wenhaver again and her intentions before Inara was even able to respond to her new duties with more than the occasional nod to show that she had heard and understood. She opened her mouth to speak, but Wenhaver seemed to have that covered, surprising even Inara by immediately expressing the desire to join.
Inara could not help but smile, but turned to watch Hyperion’s reaction with wide eyes, the smile faded as quickly as it had appeared. She could not wait forever to hear his response, however, at the expense of her replying to the part of the conversation that had directly affected her.
“I would be more than happy to stay on Tas’alea for a while and make certain the wolves there are informed, and if I stumble across a general, I’ll let him know your wishes. If it’s all the same to you and she does stay in Kairos, I can point her the way to Ina’mos and she can handle herself, I’m sure, so I don’t have to waste time.”

[attr="class","pltxt"] Hyperion couldn't believe the amount of damage the female had sustained. It looked excruciating to him, and yet here she stood. It spoke volumes about her strength. While it might have ben considered rude for him to ask he could not temper his curiosity. In a way he had to check, if only to make sure that his pack was not walking right into a trap. "Who did this to you?" It was more a demand than a question for Hyperion needed to know. Any wolf who was willing to harm someone so heinously was an enemy to him and he needed to be sure that his pack did not suffer at the hands of such a monster. Especially since he was planning on taking this female into his home, giving her a place amongst them. If she had an enemy then he would need to know outright. Inara seemed a little confused about what needed to be done and confirmed his request. Hyperion did not see any reason why Wenhaver could not make it to Ina'mos on her own while Inara completed her task of informing the generals of his plans.
It was a difficult swim and the salt water would only exacerbate her wounds, but if she could not survive it then she was not strong enough for Kairos. It would be her first real test to see if she could survive. "Is there a rank that you want or would you prefer we discuss this upon my return." If she did not know now then Inara could acquaint her with the pack and get her started. There were plenty of diverse areas within Kairos that she could take up so long as she was willing to help them. The only reason that a pack as large as they survived was because of the dedication and hard work of every single member of the pack. They would survive together, fight together, die together. "Messoria is on Ina'mos, she is my mother and the matriarch of Kairos. Seek her out and she can help you settle into life there while I am gone. As for you Inara I need you on Tas'alea as soon as you can be there." He could not remain too long for he had to reach Nimue and return home before the month was up. After all that was just too long for him to be away from his pack.
Though her expression did not change upon the demand from Hyperion, the she-wolf knew it was best to answer. He had a Pack to look out for, he was being a leader - something her father should have tried when he could. "A selfproclaimed God," she spoke gruffly, voice scratchy but truthful. "and a disappointed father." Wenhaver's stare did not waver, and no emotion settled on her mangled face. She had come to terms with the fact her father had done what he did, and that the large brute she had stumbled upon was black of heart.
"Are you a God of all Wolves, too?" she knew it bold to ask, but she felt as if she had to. One giant had not taken kindly to her not believing he to be their God, and now another stood before her, with a Pack that Inara had spoken highly of. If she were to be accepted to their ranks, would he be another to add to her mangled features? Wenhaver was no silly girl, behind her disinterested and monotone exterior, brains lay in wait for a chance to strike. She had not bowed to the one that called himself God, and in turn, he had finished off what her father had started upon her face. Had Inara brought her here under false pretenses?
Wenhaver shooed the thought away, she could see the genuine nature behind the cold female, just like she was sure Inara could see somewhat between Wenhaver's own lines.
Her mismatched eyes flickered to Inara before they went back to Hyperion as he spoke more words. She had never had a rank before, and she wasn't certain what this Pack held to be, she knew it would require more thought than a few mere seconds of contemplation. "Upon your return," her throat was painful from the use, but Wenhaver knew the time for words was in this conversation. More information hit her ears and she nodded slightly, "your time has been appreciated." Wenhaver tilted her head towards the large wolf, tail flicking behind her.
Looking back towards Inara, Wenhaver wanted to strike back upon the conversation that had been prominent before now, but she knew the time had passed. Her questions would be answered, and any truth that lay beneath the surface would be told. "Point away," Wenhaver spoke, not wanting to waste any more time. Things seemed important, and she would not hold up the Emperor nor Inara.
