Shadows move, a whisper of sound that danced playfully upon the breeze, herald the ghostly figures arrival. Sliding from one shifting shadow to the next without hesitation. Glistening silver orbs shift about with a lazy grace. The sway of that thick plum behind gave off a carefree impression. Twins perched atop that distinctive lupine cranium were upright, alert, twisting from left to the right, listening to the chirp if insects and the twitter of birds settling for the coming night.
Upon the horizon the sun dipped lower and lower, chased by the ever darkening skies. Wispy clouds overhead looked nearly black against the deep blue and gold streaked skies.
It was a time of day that she hated the most, the time of day that had seen the brutalization of her family. It had witnessed their pain, fear, anger, the last breaths they ever took while she coward behind the roots and stones inside her families den. Lips curl back, revealing the deadly lengths of ivory beneath, in a silent snarl that caused the fur along her back to stand in a sharp ridge.
A shift in weight took her gaze from the sunset and instantly, like a wave of frozen water, all emotion vanished from her demeanor. Memories weren't worth the time it took to recall them. Nothing would change the past, nor would the future change. None of it... mattered.
Repeating that mantra in her mind over and over until the lancing pain that pierced her heart faded into nothing she continued to walk. Whether this land was claimed or not did not matter the the ethereal beast, she wouldn't be here more then a day, nor would she take food. Hunger was only addressed when the growls of her stomach outweigh the thoughts of her mind.
Onward she moved, an ear twisting to catch the sounds of water splashing against soften sand and tiny pebbles. An ocean, the salt in the air told her senses without her even giving it thought. The wind rustled through her fur, cooling the lingering heat of the day, flanks expanded with a heavy breath expelled on a noisy sigh.
Indeed...what does it matter...?
She thought silently as the water came into view.
