Summer has finally arrived! The sun has melted the snows in the north and the southern territories are beginning to grow uncomfortably hot and dry. Pups are being born and life seems to finally be getting back to normal after the cure for the disease was found. But how long will it last?
The cure has been found! Wolves on Anikira are recovering from the disease and life is moving forward with the promise of pups in many packs. And yet darkness looms on the horizon, daring the creatures of Anikira to relax and allow themselves to get comfortable once more.
Alina was enjoying her little exploration of this neutral territory. The beach had been so beautiful with it's shimmering rocks and waters. Now she had a mind to see the volcano. She had never seen it before, but it was rumored to be the creator of this entire continent. It was a nice diversion from what lay waiting for her when she finally returned home. Valeria was still sick, making Alina worry for her mental fortitude. The death of her daughter had left the once strong and beautiful alpha in shambles. Alina knew no way to comfort her because she did not have any children of her own. All of her family was dead so Valyn was all that she had. This time away made her truly wonder if she was meant to belong there. Saphira was her friend but she was busy with her own family and with pack duties. Alina didn't want to bother her with her constant presence. The only reason that Alina had even come here in the first place was because Thor wanted to. The reputation this pack had for being a warrior woman's nest had made her nervous to say the least. Even though she had been there for so long she had few enough friends, making her feel isolated and often alone. It was a terrible way to live, but she had no other way out of it. Where would she go if she decided to leave Valyn.
At one time she had thought that she would end up with Quail, following him to whichever pack he lived it. His presence in her life was fleeting at best though. He popped in just long enough to get her hopes up and then he left her. Like a tantalizing scent he remained long enough for her to hunger for him, but never allowed her to taste. Instead he kept her on her toes, always hoping that he would return, often disappointed. A part of her was broken, unwilling to trust in a male ever again simply because she had loved and lost too many times to count. At one point in her life she had everything worked out and it was all perfect, now she was even more lost than ever. That was why this little adventure was so important to her, perhaps she could prove to herself that she was capable of living on her own. Maybe that would give her the courage to make a new life for herself. She was not as young as she once was so she knew that at some point she would need to move on from this cradle she had built around herself.
Staring at the red of the volcano she could almost feel the heat coming from it. Even though she wanted to see the top, there were poisonous gasses that would kill her even if she tried. This was a safe distance and it made her feel accomplished in a way. Here she was in the middle of nowhere, with no one to protect her or feed her or coddle he. For the first time in her life she felt like an adult. After all upon returning from the isles she had worked so hard to return home, just to find that no one had missed her. The one place she thought she belonged had not batted an eyelash at her missing status. No they all moved on without her and so here she was, trying to move on without them. Giving a gentle huff she sat down, gently curling her tail around her dainty paws. She really was a tiny, delicate creature, but she would not allow that to hold her back anymore.
Whether it was by sheer stubbornness or out of spite, Maxim found himself heading North. North took him up toward ashen grounds and a looming volcano. He knew this was the opposite of where he should go, but he found himself feeling curious. Just what was north of here anyway? Ananke was in the opposite direction, but what sort of pack resided in this direction? He’d never encountered volcanoes, much less one that was very much active. The air smelled of soot and charred stone. He wrinkled his nose at the intrusive smell and lowered his head to stay down wind of it. It was futile, but at least it helped even a little bit. It was acrid and reminded him of the fires that nearly destroyed Aveline.
Phantom pains wracked him as he moved further toward the volcanic area. His left flank ached with the memory of the burns he suffered. Evergreen eyes narrowed in distaste, but he pressed on. He wandered along a path, no real destination in mind. He had managed to rest a little after his previous encounter, hoping to regain some semblance of control of himself. He wondered how Ananke had faired without him. His rank usually dealt with internal issues, but there never seemed to be any. He’d gather the nerve to return to Aveline soon. Now that he had rested, his body now felt bustling with energy. It was strange to be near collapsing one minute, then restlessly wandering again the next.
Shaking his head, Maxim wandered wherever the path and his paws took him. Scents began to mix again. He could no longer smell the saltwater and certain scents seemed more concentrated. Beneath the musk of smoke was a trace of scent markers for pack he didn’t recognize. It was the barest hint on the wind. There was still mixtures, but it seemed this area was less traveled than the rest of Ryner. He knew it was still neutral territory, but he still felt on edge. Almost as if an ambush was around the corner. It was irrational and he blamed the harshness around him.
Then, like a beacon, he happened upon another wolf. He paused in his steps, floored by the fact that - one he didn’t recognize her, and two it was the second female he had encountered in less than two days. He blinked in bewilderment, wondering just why the female chose this place to relax. There seemed to be a glow around her from the light of the volcano, making it seem almost surreal. Tilting his head, he meandered over to her, steps slow and casual. Tail hanging low and a smirk across his maw. He drew close to her within speaking distance, but far enough not to seem intrusive.
”Kind of an odd place to relax. Though the view is kind of nice. If you’re into burning rocks and smoke that is..”

The breeze coming from the volcano was warm and full of spice, reminding her of another part of her life. It was right on the edge of her memory but she could not grasp onto it. It felt nice though, to be in such a warm place, considering that she was not always suited to the cold up north. So long ago she had a male to keep her warm, but now she was on her own. Not to be plagued with the shivers and shudders of winter she gave a gentle sigh. With the arrival of a strangers voice Alina looked over her shoulder, giving the most radiant smile. After all this was a chance for her to make a new friend, one who might actually have time for her. The other friends she had were always too busy and so here she was all on her own. "I have never seen a volcano before. It is almost unreal." The giant mount with smoke billowing from the top, hinting at the fiery depths just beneath the surface. Besides she had no other place to relax, and the warm glow just made the atmosphere so much nicer.
"I have been exploring this territory for awhile now, rather than be stuck in my packs territory. After all I have seen everything that is there and I was curious. After all this whole island is said to be made from the volcano." The last place she had lived hadn't had such a fantastic tale of creation so she appreciated it. Even this behemoth structure had it's own kind of natural beauty to it. "I am Alina, what is your name. You don't smell like a loner." Alina knew a pack scent when she smelt one, but it was an unfamiliar group scent. She only knew the scents of Valyn and Aludri well enough to identify them, but this one was new. Perhaps she would get the chance to learn about a new pack. The thought of there being another place where she might fit in better than Valyn intrigued her. "I am from Valyn, but I don't fit in very well there. I am not strong or skilled so I am often overlooked."
Alina was honest and blunt, not really understanding the need for a filter. After she was too innocent to fathom the evil intentions of others. Surely this wolf was a kind brute, exploring just the same as she was. Besides how could he possibly use this information against her. She was just telling the truth about herself. Wasn't that how conversations were supposed to go? Flicking her tail a little in glee she wondered if this male would truly want to be her friend.
Call it reflexes, muscle memory, instinct, he ducked back when the female turned to look at him. He was frozen by a pair of bright blue eyes. Eyes reminiscent of Inara, but they held no ire. He had been in the presence of volatile females more often than not. He wouldn’t count Wren or Skye, even Serenity appeared gentle in nature. This one seemed to light up before his eyes. The reaction had stunned him into momentary silence. She actually seemed happy to see him. Despite the fact they were perfect strangers, he found himself frozen like stone. The radiance of her smile both shocked and relaxed him. The energy was magnetic as he felt his own body warm and fill with elation. It was almost as if looking at a friend he hadn’t seen in years. Though he knew it was ridiculous as he had never seen her before in his life. But the sensation filled him all the same.
She spoke and he found himself actually leaning in to listen. She spoke of the volcano, seeming in awe of it. Maxim could only nod in agreement. Despite the awful smell, the natural monument of nature’s power was truly intriguing to see. He himself had never seen one either, but he wasn’t about to let on how nervous he was to be standing so close to it. The heat in the air was almost stifling despite the usual chill. It was as if winter hardly touched this part of the land. He tilted his head in her direction, splitting his attention on her and the volcano. ”It is quite a site I suppose. I’ve only been on the beach for a short while, then I explored the tunnels. This land is confusing and interesting all at the same time. Not like where I’m from at all.” he replied, slowly moving to sit beside her. He still kept distance between them, unsure how to interact just yet.
The companionship was nice. It was a strange feeling finding females who weren’t outright off put by his presence. Granted he wasn’t the most companionable wolf, he did his best. The small femme intrigued him, she seemed lonely. Maxim could remember his loner days and longing for someone to talk to. But she didn’t have the loner’s scent. She smelled of pack, but not one he was familiar with. She went on to introduce herself and state she was from Valyn. A pack he was not acquainted with, but heard whispers of in passing. His ears perked, curiously. She had mentioned feeling overlooked and not of use. His chest tightened at the sorrow in her tone, wanting to keep the mood light between them. A wry grin pulled at his maw as he casually shifted closer to her. His tail wrapped around and rested lightly next to her’s, just within reach.
”Well, between you and me, I’d never overlook you.” he flirted, casually. It was his default reaction to such a beautiful female. Even if she was a stranger. Maxim just had this natural casual charm about him. Some didn’t take kindly to it, but it was how he was. ”Pleasure to meet you, Alina of Valyn. I’m Maxim, Justice of Ananke. I lost my way and wound up here, you see. I suppose I could spare some time to take in the sights.” he paused to playfully look her over. ”And offer some company to a lonely little darlin’ like you. No one should ever be alone unless they want to be.” he replied, casually. His tone low and seemed to become a drawl in places. His evergreen eyes slowly lifted and tried to catch her gaze. His tone may have seemed reading, but he was nothing if not sincere.

The male came to sit beside her before introducing herself and Alina scooted a little closer, unsure why he was trying to keep his distance. After all he seemed friendly enough. Maxim was a name she hadn't heard before, but she was eager to get to know him better. After all a friend was always something to put her in a good mood. Flicking his leg gently with her tail she made sure to leave just a few inches between them. After all trying to become intimate would no doubt give him the wrong idea. Still she was determined to make a friend out of him, especially since he was so nice. "This place is very different from my pack's lands, but I like it. The volcano and the beach are so nice. They say there are crocodiles in the river and I want to see them. Have you ever seen one before." Crocodiles were not a common occurrence where she lived and she was eager to see them at least once.
When Maxim confessed that he would never over look her she gave a shy smile. Everyone in her pack sure did, especially because she was totally useless to them. She could not hunt or fight or even heal. The best that she could do was run and there wasn't much need for runners within the pack. Even though she was eager and friendly it seemed as though she did not fit within Valyn. Thor had dumped her there before leaving the pack and she did not have the strength or bravery to leave. Especially when she had nowhere else to go. Pushing those thoughts aside she refocused on Maxim, wanting to give him a good time. "It is nice to meet you as well. I like making new friends, which is why I am exploring out here. Not many strangers are welcome onto Valyn lands, which means less friends. Do you have a lot of friends?" She knew that she was babbling, but she hoped he would not mind it too much. Some hated her natural exuberance but there was little she could do to tone it down. After all everything new was so exciting to her, how could she not meet it with such joy.

Jaidah is one of the albinos on the site, a brand new character brought to life by a brand new player. It is interesting to see how such a pure looking being could be wrapped up in the angsty claws that is Irkalla! We will definitely be staying in-tune with this character to see just what heights Bird is able to take her!
