Too long now had she avoided Hektor, and A’ia knew it very well. Something about the time she’d spent with him before Poseidon interrupted had haunted her as of late, for she’d been ashamed by how easily she’d dropped her guard with him after everything that had occurred. She’d fallen back into her old habits of slinking through the shadows, avoiding places she knew he might be – though strangely, she’d also avoided the scents of other Kairos males, when she encountered them. A part of her rebelled at the idea that it was because Hektor had told her to avoid friendships with them, and another part of her could not exactly deny it. He had never been harsh with her, and she found that strangely she did not like the idea of intentionally igniting his anger.
She found herself slipping down the expanse of rocks that lead to the glimmering pools of the oasis beneath. Once there, she took a moment to orient herself and truly consider what she was doing as she curled into a seated position before the water, sunlight glistening off of both the pool and her pelt. If she called for him, there was a chance he would not come – and could she blame him, after how she’d avoided him for so long? There was also another thought that had been niggling at her, the knowledge that with the approaching changing of the seasons, her heat would inevitably follow. It was something that frightened her; would he expect her to carry his offspring soon? She did not think he would force her, but the thought of being a mother, a mother to his pups…it made her stomach tighten in a way that she did not know how to decipher.
With a little sigh, she at last tilted her head back, a melodic call ringing out, echoing off of the rocks. She called for him specifically, and when the last echoes of her voice died out, she lowered her muzzle and waited, sunset orbs scanning the horizon for his arrival.
