Superstitious wolves say fate has a hand in everyone's life. At least, that's what the oracle said. Keres had never believed in such a thing, actions were the only thing that affected your life, whether it be your own or others. As she acquainted herself with Anikira, Keres found herself thinking a lot about her former pack, and what her pack mates used to say. It was not completely her fault, the voices never shut up. They made her reminisce, but they twisted her memories into shadows and left her feeling lost a hopeless. Fate had played no part in her pack's demise, and it had not caused her to end up here, wherever here was. It had all been action and consequence.
Keres had travelled inland from the beach, the journey had taken several days as she was weak and exhausted. She had managed to find abandoned carrion but had not taken the time to hunt. Her stomach rumbled at the thought, aching with emptiness. Padding across the flat expanse, she eyed the steam rising in the distance. The air felt warm and humid, heavy with the scent of sulfur. Her lip curled in disgust as she stared at the geysers. Keres had never seen such a thing, and it fascinated her but also scared her.
Is it all in my head or does the ground look like home? She wondered, looking across the landscape from the hill she stood upon. White, dry sulfur was build up around the geysers, and the pools shimmered with a blue hue that captivated her mind. It wasn't mountains, but the sulfur made it look the mountains when the sun rose and hit them, creating an illusion of shimmering diamonds.
Home is so very far away. She reminded herself, beginning to approach the unstable ground. As she walked closer, the scent got stronger and her nostrils flared, eyes narrowing against the heat. This is repulsive, where the hell am I?
It was a question she didn't have an answer to, at least not yet. Had she not been an impulsive one year old with an unquenched curiosity, Keres would have turned around. The entire scene screamed danger, but she seemed to be drawn to danger lately. Ever since the voices showed up, she felt like she was losing herself. She slowed down, stopping. The sulfur was stinging her eyes.
You're being an idiot. It won't hurt you, keep going. You know you want to see what it is. I'll go with you. Keres turned her head, spying the white wolf as she spoke, her voice soothing.
"Where have you been?" Keres asked, her tail wagging slightly. She wasn't alone. Even if she liked her solitude, Lethe had become like a sister to her. They had been on the plane together.
Exploring. Come on. Lethe said, jerking her head towards the geysers. It'll be fun. Keres grinned and nodded, padding after her. When they reached the first geyser, it was nothing more than a bubbling pit. Keres stepped closer, peering over the edge into the shimmering water, holding her breath.

Notes || I had some free time and was bored, so I decided to make the thread. Just an FYI, Lethe is a visual hallucination that appears because of her schizophrenia, and she is unaware that Lethe is not real.
