Ares picked his way across the southern border of Vor'asa. While there were things that he wanted to see through in Ina'mos, most of all whatever he had with Morag, he felt compelled to check on the territory. Possibly to run into youth who had decided to embark on their agoge despite the incoming winter, and possibly to see if there was anything else on the mainland that he needed to know about. He would have plenty of time to pursue the femme who had captured his attention, and he wanted to be able to return to Ina'mos, hopefully until the spring, this winter although he had not voiced those wishes to her.
While he was sure that she would accept the honor he also knew that it was a subject best approached with delicacy and some show of his own suitability to the task. Even if he knew that he was one of the most competent wolves in Kairos, the largest pack on Anikira, he also knew that females came across many other males than him who were less than adaquent and so it was reasonable to expect him to give some sort of proof that he differed from them. Besides he would accept nothing less than the best and knew that Morag likewise accept nothing but the male who could provide for her whatever she desired. Whether that was love or support, fire or ice he would match any competitors he had for her - even if it was some imaginary standard that she held in her mind for him.
His ears perked when he came up across the abandoned Moa nest. It did not contain an egg, not that he needed to complete an agoge, but he took note of the fact that it was empty. Maybe the egg had already been stolen, or perhaps this was not a nest that belonged to a pair. Part of him knew that even he would have trouble if an angry adult moa returned and resented his presence he was slightly curious. While he had chanced across some signs of them once or twice he had never had a reason to seek out the bird and wanted to see one again. If he wanted to he would have no problem stealing an egg of either a hawk or a moa at his age and prowess, but now that he realized he did not know and had not gotten a good look at the birds before he wanted to stay.
