While it was not the warmest of days, Azazel found himself drifting toward the coast. Snow and ice covered every inch of Shyia’s typically lush greenery. Azazel was, admittedly, a little more nesh than he had been growing up. He’d been spoilt by the good weather over the past two years, and now the sea breeze had more of a nip to it than he remembered. With a soft sigh, Azazel halted at the edge of the beach. The snow-covered grass beneath his paws turned to snow-covered sand. He supposed the cold was a small price to pay for security.
Shyia’s geography was becoming second nature very quickly, and he was remembering his old haunts fairly quickly. There was a secluded place nearby, he was sure of it. He’d spent time there whenever his family was too overbearing. Padding onto the white beach, he tried to let his instincts take over, and guide him to the location. The ocean, spread out before him, glistened like a precious cerulean jewel, and for the first time in a long time, Azazel felt exhaled a deep breath of relief. Deep in the heart of Aludri territory, it felt like nothing had changed in the last two years; like everything that had happened had been a dream. It was strange to let his guard down, even for a moment.
When Azazel snapped out of his thoughts, he was still wandering the shoreline. There was nothing to jog his memory, given everything was blanketed with snow. A grumble wriggled its way from his maw as he paused his meanderings. What was he doing here, really? Surely being on the run would be more fun than relaxing into a boring, safe life. What if he never left again, paralysed by fear of those who hunted him? No, he wouldn’t let that happen. Aludri was one stop along the way, it was not the final destination. It all depended on how long Arche trusted him for. Long term, it would be better if Azazel parted from Aludri again on good terms, rather than being kicked out. After all, he might need the pack again someday.
The sound of approaching footfalls caught his attention, the crunch of both the sand and the snow twice as loud as usual. His ears swivelled curiously, guard going up immediately, as he turned to observe the stranger. Perhaps some company would distract him from the mundanity of Aludri.
