Another winter was upon them and it almost didn't feel real to Kaiah. She was aging and isolating herself away from the others, perhaps against her better judgment. Kibwe was her only company these days and even he could hardly break through the wall that she had fastened securely around herself. The caves became her dwelling place, she burrowed as deep as she could manage, only coming out every so often to feed which when she did eat it was barely enough to even be considered a true meal. Wolves went through depression, that was a thing, but Kaiah would deny it tooth and nail. Again, Kibwe stayed with her, but he worried. He groomed her incessantly as if he could groom away whatever was ailing her but it was to no use. The three-legged wolf was lost in a sea of her own thoughts and it would take a village to pull her out of them. On this particularly cold evening Kaiah made her way out of the caverns towards the river enshrouded in fog. She was hoping by coming out at such a late time she would avoid running into someone, physical interaction with another being was the last thing she wanted right now.
Mostly this was because Kaiah knew she wouldn't be able to hide anything. She was an open book most of the time and if something was bothering her it could be read clear as day across her face. She shrugged her shoulders as she moved through the dense fog, her breath coming out in shallow puffs in front of her. It was especially cold and ice particles clung to her fur. She could see faint reindeer tracks in the snow before her and was almost surprised that they were still traversing through here. She had suspected that the herd would have migrated by now but she supposed a few stragglers were to be expected. But again she had no hunger, nor was she thirsty. She came here out of necessity but she didn't expect the river to be unfrozen. Perhaps she was just moving to move. To feel the pull and release of her stiff muscles as she plowed through the snow. "Perhaps you could seek out one of your sisters?" Kibwe suggested and Kaiah scoffed with a shake of her head before speaking, "They are busy you know that.. I'll be fine." She assured him but her words were severely lacking the emotion that they needed to truly reassure her companion.
