[attr="class","pltxt"]Things were different now. With the birth of his sons and daughters, a strong, protective nature had awoken in the brute that he had not realized lay dormant. Though the male had always taken a protective role in his litter, always looking out for his sisters, it paled in comparison to the love and desire to fight off anyone who stood in their path that he felt towards those four little miracles. It had been wrong of him to shoot somewhat nasty looks in the other male's way - it was obvious to him that the pups were his - but he could not control the way his emotions ran wild. Tensions were running high, and Vorilye had already had a seed of doubt in his mind that Dione had wanted him out of the picture for another male. It was simply a logical jump, considering the brute was the only one there who had no practical reason to show up. Though Vorilye had not apologized, and it was unlikely that he would, he did feel a measure of embarrassment at his reaction. He was not blind; that male looked at Dione the same way he did. And that hurt.
Perhaps with him out of the way, the other male would have a clear opening to his Queen. And that tore at Vorilye; she did not trust him, and yet he had never done anything to spite her. To go against her. In many ways, he had simply just been her loyal subject all along, in many ways that a King should not have been. Perhaps that had been part of his problem, that he simply could not muster the strength to try to be an equal partner. He had lived his live in a world that let femmes take control, and Vorilye had always likened Dione to his mother (in the least creepy way possible) in the way that she commanded a situation. While Valeria had been far more expressive with her emotions in the long run, they were both naturally dominant personalities, and it had satisfied Vorilye to simply be along for the ride. Clearly she did not want that, and he had learned far too late to salvage anything between them.
And yet she still let me in. Why would she do that? The thought had clung heavily in his heart and still bounced around constantly. He could not understand how he could have been just as terrible as her father, and yet she let them create life together. Vorilye had bound himself to her in that moment, and it was tearing him apart. How could that have meant so little to her? It was part of why he was struggling to return to her company, leaving him watching over them from meters away to ensure that she and the pups were safe. But there were several times that he found himself lost in thought or simply too overwhelmed to remain at watch, and as soon as he was sure that she was safely watched over by the others, he would step away, get his wits back about him, and return once more. This was one such moment; he would return soon, but for the mean time, the waves were relaxing. It was a place that he often came to get away from his stress in his time as a member of the pack. He simply did not know what to do here as a loner.
It really sucked to be alone.
