Deep within the mountains of the Tia’deli range, buried under tonnes of solid rock and snow, a still pool glimmered in a dim ethereal light. A few small fish swum lazily just below the glassy blue surface. All was quiet. Peaceful. This pool had been here a long long time and it wasn’t going to change any time soon.
That didn’t stop Athalie trying to bring some life into the dismally calm cavern.
“CANNONBALL!”
With a deafening shout, the young she wolf launched herself into the pool, sending a giant wave of water out in front of her. She flailed around underwater for a few moments before managing to fight her way back to the surface. “Oh boy that was fun!” She’d had a good run up that time, careening down the tunnel at top pace before making the leap. Athalie gave her head a good shake to get rid of the water that had lodged itself inside her left ear. That didn’t work, so she spun onto her back and let her head dip back under water. Might as well embrace it.
But an unfortunate side effect of having her ears below the surface was that the water muffled her hearing, making the world sound uncomfortably quiet. As if she were isolated in her own little bubble.
She wasn’t sure where any of her other packmates were. Father was probably off doing boring alpha duties, or teaching one of her siblings how to inherit said boringness. Athalie sighed. She supposed it was nice having a big caring family, but she sometimes wished they would take some time out of their schedules for a bit of fun now and then. Azazel, though, he seemed to have a bit of the spirit she was looking for. She tended to spend a lot of her time off doing her own lately, but maybe she should try to take the time get to know some of her pack mates better. Who knew, perhaps the ones whom she considered dull might have their own kind of fun buried deep inside. She just had to figure out a way to bring it out of them.
