The day had finally arrived when the young male would prove to all in Kairos that he was worthy of a position in their ranks, that he was destined for greatness in his own rite and that he could survive in the harshest conditions. The Dire male had spent his morning capturing a light breakfast, a small hare he had chased down rather quickly on his way to the ocean, and stretch his muscles in preparation of the long swim he had ahead. He had not had the chance to speak with many of the older males, particularly not his father since he had recently gotten word that the old brute was dead, but he did not let that bother him. He had gotten the information he needed as far as what the end of the trial would entail and what he would have to do in order to pass as well as what areas of Vor’asa he would need to travel to in order to find his query. He knew that there were other members of Kairos that made their homes on the mainland so he hoped that perhaps while he was there he would meet one or two that could better aid him to achieve his ultimate goal… but even if none showed, Arcturus was determined to return to Ina’mos safely with one of the birds’ eggs in his mouth.
The brown coated brute had been swimming for hours, the tide and winds all working against him, and only when he could use the waves to help him make it the last fifty feet to shore did he allow himself to glance over his shoulder at the expansive body of water he had just traversed, at the speck of land on the horizon that he had known as home for his entire life. Arcturus let out a relieved sigh… he had just about made it. Soon his paws would be on solid ground again and he could rest, gain his strength, and start his journey in proving himself to Kairos and hopefully gain favor from both the Gods and Hyperion. The orange-eyed wolf turned back toward Vor’asa and lazily paddled in with the surf, panting to try to catch his breath before his paws touched ground again. Once he did find the earth beneath him again, he walked ashore slowly, his tongue lolled out and his legs feeling more and more like they would give out beneath him with every step he took. Once the young male got out of reach of the waves rolling ashore he let his haunches fall back onto the earth beneath him and his front legs slide out in front of him until his belly hit the earth and he was laying down, finally able to let his exhausted limbs rest.
Whatever Arcturus had expected of the swim to the mainland, it had not been what he actually experienced. He focused on slowing his breath, on inhaling as deep as he could and exhaling slowly in an attempt to catch his breath and slow his heart rate back down. He had made it to Vor’asa, and now he would spend time training to eventually take one of the giant bird’s eggs to determine his fate within Kairos… he would make his family proud, he would make Gwydion proud. The thought of his youngest sister brought a stab of pain at his heart, knowing she would be gone by the time he returned from his trials was one of the worst things he could imagine. How could he be excited to come home when the one wolf he would want to see in the whole world wouldn’t be there? No… he would have to return home, be accepted as a Gladiator and then venture out to find her and tell him about all his adventures in this strange new land… this was the beginning of his Agoge.

He walks. He talks. He thinks.
