It was time. With not only one, but at least two of her pack females due to give birth at any time, Mara knew she could wait no longer. Though no one had contested their presence in the area, she knew that Ravenis needed to officially claim South Igneir as their own before someone decided they did not want them there. Plus, she had no intention of leaving. When the pups arrived they would be born into a world that was safe and protected by their growing pack, and Mara would make sure that her grandchildren would not be harmed in any way. Plus, Masyn had managed to get Lisanna pregnant as well. This time it had been only his scent on her throughout her heat, and she was certain the bitch had been careful to remain near the caves where she would not encounter a wandering wolf again. Mara was grateful for that, though she was also glad that Erza had returned. The half-wolf female had promise, though she had a lot of learning and growing to do as well.
Ravenis was growing, and for now they needed an official home. She would give them that, and she would defend it fiercely. She would need to communicate with Kharak - the leader of the pack that claimed The Occasus next to them - but as far as she knew the wolves of the west would likely leave them in peace. But the land directly to their west was unclaimed, and she was sure they were safe. She sighed softly for a moment as she pushed herself to her paws, not pleased that she would be doing this on her own. But she did not need a male beside her to lead, and she had proven that many times before. Where they had crumbled or left her, she stood strong and pushed forward always. Her daughters stayed at her side, and so far she had one son with her as well. But she was certain that Caelum was busy entertaining himself with his new pet at the moment.
The thought made her smirk slightly, but she brought her focus back to the task at hand rather quickly. It was time, and she could put it off no longer. Her dealings with Khalsa would come next, but for the time being she climbed her way up onto a large boulder near the caves that would soon become the home to her grandchildren. Then her nose lifted, her jaws parting and a powerful howl erupted from her. This was her home. This place belonged to Ravenis, and she would make sure that no one dared contest them. It came as no surprise to the female when a pair of feminine howls danced from the darkness of the caves behind her, and it was easy for her to recognize Lorelai and Lisanna's chorus. They were part of her pack as well, and though they were merely following suit and adding to the pack's claim obediently behind her, she was grateful that they had joined her as well. But she hoped they remained resting in the darkness, even as their howls danced and echoed off the walls of the cave and seemed to come from the entrance even stronger than they had meant to be.
In the distance, but still within the territory, she heard the call of her son. Caelum's voice had grown deeper with age, and she felt her chest swell slightly in pride as his powerful howl added to the feminine voices of his family and pack mates. He might not be standing beside her, but she knew that he was nearby and would protect the borders regardless. A call that did not sound, however, was that of her eldest daughter. Tanha was not one to typically join in with the pack festivities or rituals, and it did not surprise the small female that her daughter did not join in. But Tanha's scent was no doubt somewhere nearby, or at least would return to her soon. Though she did not know the purpose behind what the young wolf did most of the time, she still trusted her to do what was best for her pack. At least until she finally decided to leave for good. Still she sang, though, calling out to her pack and those beyond her borders to announce that this was her home and she did not intend to leave anytime soon.
(Anyone in Ravenis is welcome to join ^.^)
