[attr="class","pltxt"]Her paws carried her swiftly through hostile territory, her breaths coming in quick, short pants as she ran. Her body was exhausted, still recovering from the litter she’d birthed days earlier, but Harlot forced herself to continue, teeth gritted as she moved. She was so close to the border of unclaimed territory that she could practically taste it, freedom nipping at her heels as she went. She could still hardly believe that Arche had allowed her to depart from the caverns so amiably; she supposed it had to have been his sleep addled mind, for when she’d suggested that she needed air and time to stretch her legs, he’d agreed. And so she’d fled, leaving her newborn pups behind in a den with him, her excuses sounding weak and ridiculous even to her. But she hadn’t hesitated to cross Shyia’s border onto the coast of Acerbus, where she’d swiftly fled towards Igneir.
She had to move quickly, for already she would be pushing the time she had been granted. She’d wandered further than she’d intended to, and yet still a fierce need drove her, an insatiable desire to see the brute who she’d encountered during her pregnancy. She’d thought of him so very much lately, those aqua orbs rimmed with regal gold haunting her in the days she’d spent cooped up in the cavern. Leviathan. Over and over it rang in her mind, tinged with the sweet hint of freedom. She didn’t even know where to look for him, or if he still lingered near Kairos’ land, but it hadn’t stopped her from searching.
At last her delicate paws touched the warm earth that signified safe land, and she came to a halt, huffing out air between her teeth as she allowed herself to rest. Sapphire orbs flitted across the unfamiliar land, scorched and barren, as her sides slowly ceased to heave. In the back of her mind there was a word repeating endlessly, echoing through her thoughts: guilt. It should have plagued her, she was sure of it, and yet she felt…nothing. She was still disturbed by her lack of immediate affection for the pups who she’d carried within her, and by the lessening affection she felt for Arche with each day. And it had been so easy to flee from them, to think of nothing more than herself and the brute she sought out. Guilt. Had Harlot ever felt it? Truly, she didn’t think so. But how could she have, when her very parents had praised her for her determination and ruthlessness? Brazen as the sun, her mother had fondly called her, never scolding Harlot for her selfish inclinations or her lack of outstanding morals. And even now as she stood scanning the horizon, planning her next course of action, the only feelings that curled within her chest were excitement, relief, and yearning.
What a merciless creature you are, she thought to herself as at last she began to prowl forward, the beginning of a smile curling at her maw.
