Summer has finally arrived! The sun has melted the snows in the north and the southern territories are beginning to grow uncomfortably hot and dry. Pups are being born and life seems to finally be getting back to normal after the cure for the disease was found. But how long will it last?
The cure has been found! Wolves on Anikira are recovering from the disease and life is moving forward with the promise of pups in many packs. And yet darkness looms on the horizon, daring the creatures of Anikira to relax and allow themselves to get comfortable once more.
Being more careful this time as she revisited the marsh, a young female moved quickly and as quietly as she could in the waters. Her bright eyes kept dancing around the land, watching for whatever may jump out at her from where ever it hid. This time around, she stayed more on the solid land than trudging and running through as much water, so when she stopped to take a pause, she was not soaked like she had been the last time she had visited.
Golden yellow eyes danced around the land for a few brief minutes before she started to move on again. Though this time, she found a patch of mossy waters that seemed clear of other creatures, and wadded through it. She did pause for a small drink before bounding out of it again, water spraying up on either side of her and soaking the fur on her chest, tail and stomach. She wasn't sure of what it was that made her feel so energized, but she was liking the feeling. With nearly no other creature of same design as her around, she could act how she pleased. She didn't have to worry much of others right away either, especially since she was still on her pack lands. Sure, she knew wolves from other packs would come by and cross over Ananke borders. Though, for now, they seemed well marked so she was going to spend time to enjoy herself. Even as she caught sight of a small bird landing not far away.
Her body dropped to the ground as she watched the bird in silence. She remained that way for several minutes before she jumped to her feet after water nearby splashed from a more dangerous creature startled the bird toward the air. As her paws left the ground, she felt feathers in her mouth just as she was about to return to the ground to end the bird and bring it home to a member of her pack.
Micah watched as the little female made her way through the marsh like waters. He had been making the effort to familiarize himself with the Ananke territory when he had caught an unfamiliar scent. It was one of his new pack mates, that much he could tell, but he had never met this particular individual before. The way that she flitted about the water made Micah smile with glee. Her movements were unrestrained, as if she were free from all earthly burdens. Micah could not recall if he had ever felt that way before, so elated. Silently watching her he kept his distance making sure she caught no sight of him He didn't want to interrupt the obviously good day she was having on her own. After meeting with Gailleann he had decided to have more fun in his life. There was more than enough serious in him for a male twice his age, but he had enjoyed being a pup again. Determined to try some teasing fun with Nimue, he would make his attack later on when he saw her again. She had pack duties to attend to and he didn't mind in the least. Gave him more time to explore, not only the land but it's residents. If he was really to call this pack his home he needed a better understanding of who his new family was. Plus many of them knew Nimue better than he did so there was always the chance of learning about her on his own.
Before he could pull himself from his thoughts he felt a tension float through the air. His eyes moved to the female hoping that she hadn't spotted him yet. Coming across as a creeper was something that he did not want, but watching her was like watching baby birds. So innocent and sweet he couldn't resist. She was crouched low as if she was hunting, but Micah could see no prey near them. At least not until she snapped the bird up into her mouth, the little creature dead before it could realize it's peril. Micah would not have chosen to hunt a bird only because it would make less than a mouthful for him on a good day. That and he hated the flavor of feathers. No matter how much time he spent plucking a feather always managed to sneak in some how. The ebony femme didn't eat the bird and it made him wonder what he was saving it for. Perhaps there was a friend or a lover back home that she wanted to give it to.
Deciding that he had watched her long enough he took a few steps forward, wading through the muggy water. Whatever appeal she found from this stretch of land was lost on him. "That was a good catch. I don't think I could be that fast." In truth his large size made him strong and his long legs meant he could outrun many others, but physical swiftness was not a skill he had.

Pulling a few feathers from the bird so they wouldn't try to venture down her throat as she carried it to where ever the next hungry pack wolf was, she didn't realize that she was being watched. Not until he spoke. As his voice wrapped around her, Skye froze after jumping away from the bird briefly. When the other creature's scent reached her nose, she relaxed just a little. He must have been another pack wolf since she had yet to meet more of the pack wolves that the few that she had already gotten to meet. It took the female a few extra seconds to settle her now startled heart. "You saw that didn't you." Skye lowered her head slightly as she tried to look as innocent as she could.
Birds had been one of her favorite things to try and catch, then again so did the small rabbits when she came across them. Maybe it was because she was not use to hunting the much larger animals for more than just herself. She would hunt them here and there and feast on more than she should, but the next afternoon she would barely seek something small for lunch.
When she realized her gaze fell from the other, she quickly reattached it to him again. She took a breath before releasing it silently. "Timing has a lot to do in it." She tried to joke slightly as she offered a quiet, friendly tone and a wag of her tail. She dropped her head a little, but her tail still wagged slightly behind her as it brushed against her knees. She had not fully expected company, but she also was not going to deny it. Rather, she enjoyed it. Enjoyed being around wolves that did not see her for one thing or as another, but saw her as she was. A mottled creature that enjoyed peaceful company. A creature, that once comfortable with her company, was one that was happy-go-lucky.

Micah hadn't meant any harm in watching her. He just found her actions to be so mesmerizing. For a few minutes he could just be still and lose himself in the silence. It was nice to have some alone time to collect his thoughts. Nimue had been on his mind since the day he had joined Ananke. When he wasn't with her he was constantly distracted by his daydreams all of them of her. He was a little love struck pup, pining after her like he had no control. He didn't care though because she was the most spectacular creature that he had ever met. Digressing from the topic at hand he tried to turn his attention back to the female in front of him. "My name is Micah, I am sorry if I intruded on your alone time. I am new to this pack and am just trying to meet some friends."
The fact of the matter was that outside of Nimue he didn't know any of the other wolves here. He had met Gailleann, but she was a part of Valyn. He had spent his nights with Nimue, but the time had come for him to branch out. This would never be his home for the rest of his life, at least the way that he saw it. If he and Nimue were really going to work then he needed to make more of an effort to fit in here. Even if he managed to make Nimue fall in love with him it wouldn't matter if no one else in her pack liked him. "I must admit that you are much more swift than I am. I would never have been able to catch it so gracefully." This was a start for them at least. If they did get along he hoped that he would be able to count her as a friend. He needed a friend that he could turn to, someone who he could rely on. Someone he could ask for help from for her knew that he was destined to screw up with Nimue somewhere along the line. "What is your name?"
A black and white tail flickered softly behind her as she tilted her head at the wolf named Micah. When he apologized for intruding on her time to herself, she couldn't help but shake her head. "In a pack, I am never alone. Just simply...enjoying myself, doing what I do best." Her eyes looked over the male, nearly feeling like she was looking at herself. Aside from the eyes that is. The white to him seemed more various than it was upon her own pelt.
"Name of mine is Skye, and you are not the only one to have yet figure out the names of the whole pack." Her tail gained a little curl as it wagged softly behind her. Meeting more and more of the ones that called this place home just as well helped her feel more like she was at home, than the loner lands had. "As for what you saw, guess you could say it was skill with lots of practice." Looking down at the bird, she knew that it was true. The first several tries of trying to catch a bird for a simple meal had normally gone wrong. She would either get just air, feathers on the occasion. It was after the hundredth time of trying that she had made it fair to her to attempt to learn how to actually catch the flighty creatures. After that, she had spent months upon months trying to figure out how exactly to catch her feathery prey.
Looking back up, her eyes were lit up with a small amount of pride as she remembered trying again and again when she was little. That alone left her in the proper shape to jump just enough into the sky to at least snag a wing or a foot of the bird if it had taken off on her before she could reach it. "Hungry?" She asked, her paw barely touching the bird as she stepped away from it. "Or we could easily travel elsewhere for a more decent feast." Her last sentence came out a little quieter than all her previously spoken words as she watched him, her tail moving silently behind her.
She made a good point considering that pack lands were all shared. Even if one did want the chance to get some alone time there was no guarantee that someone wouldn't interrupt you. It was almost as if they all gravitated to the same peaceful places, although Micah did not think this place was peaceful in the slightest. It was wet and muggy not at all what he thought was appealing. While he did enjoy the water from time to time he preferred clean water over this marsh. Now that he was familiar with this particular stretch of Ananke land he was satisfied not to return to it. "I am ashamed to say that you are the only Ananke wolf I have met aside from Nimue." He had been lax in his introductions, not taking the time to meet everyone around him, especially since they were all so close to him. It would take little to no effort to reach out to them so why did he hesitate. Maybe it was the doubt that still remained a part of him, would these pack mates treat him any differently then Valyn had? Was this really a place that he could call his home? He knew that he belonged here with Nimue, but he also needed to know that he pack would accept him.
"I am not currently hungry, but thank you for asking." Micah had eaten well since he had joined Ananke. The difference in dynamics within this pack was so different from his expectations. These last few days had been so freeing and he was allowed to go where he pleased with no restriction. Now however he was determined to do better, he would make the effort to be a functional member of this pack. He was going to make this place his home, and these people his family. "Are you hungry? I would be happy to catch you something if you like, although I doubt I am good enough to pluck a bird from the sky." Small prey was lost on him, but large prey could not stand against his large size and strength.

It had to feel strange to know only one or two members of the pack that she was to call family, but she knew that not all wolves felt comfortable to meet many at one time. She was part of that group. Glancing back down at the bird in between the two, she shook her head. "There is no shame in knowing just a few. The chieftain is nice, I will say that. Even if I have not spent time getting to know our leader, but it also has taken time to know each wolf." Her voice was quiet before she looked back up. "Just be glad you know her." The curl in her tail soon straightened out behind her.
"As for hunger, it doesn't bother me. If anything, I will feast on what I catch. Thank you anyway." Though it had been a while since she last ate, she did not wish to try for something larger when she would be one of the only ones to feast on it. To her, it would become a waste, so she would have to do with the bird that she caught if nothing else came to it. Now if he was to feast upon it too, there would be a slim chance that she would have denied the offer, cause she normally enjoyed the chase of any prey, but she said nothing of it to him. Skye swallowed silently, her shoulder twitching in the process as she sat down. Her eyes were still lit up from the praise given for the catch, but her body had long since relaxed. As she watched him, her mind wandered. Was she to feel blessed that she was the second member of their pack that he met, or was there a certain reason as to why he had not met any of the others? No matter what it was, she was not going to ask as she tried to brighten up again, moving slightly where she sat.
Planning to say something, she paused. She let her gaze drift slightly as she tried to remember what she was going to say before it suddenly left her mind. When she looked back up at him, she lowered her head sheepishly with a soft wag of her tail, nearly looking innocent for nearly zero reason.
Micah tipped his head at her, his deep blue eyes scanning over her. He could not ever remember a time when hunger had never bothered him. His belly was prone to aching when he didn't get enough to eat and that was on a good day. He couldn't take the stress of prolonged hunger. "That is quite impressive that you can power through hunger. I must a I am a big baby if my tummy is empty." His voice was playful, not quite teasing, but bordering on whimsical. He was enjoying his time with this wolf. What had first begun as an awkward interaction was now blossoming into a comfortable conversation. Sky was nice, not pressuring him for information about himself or where he came from. The fact that he was from Valyn gave him doubts that Ananke wolves wouldn't trust him. If they found out he had once been a part of an enemy pack he had no doubt that they would not want him. If anything else he would have Nimue on his side.
"You are right in that Skye, Nimue is very nice. She was the main reason that I joined Ananke. I was passing through when I met her at the border." If he had met anyone else that his fate would have been very much different. Instead he might have actually returned to Valyn to live his life with his mother's companions. Most of his friends or at least the wolves his age had long departed from there. Now it was mostly the remaining Valyn females intermixed with some Descai blood. The merging of the packs had reached even his ears so far down south. Micah sat down despite the muddy waters, his rump getting a little more moisture than he would have liked. "Skye how long have you been here? If you don't mind my asking of course." He hadn't really worked through all of the ranks in Ananke or even who had been here the longest. All he knew was that Nimue was the chieftan and Micah was a warrior. "Also what is your rank here? I am supposed to be a warrior, but I do feel like I am slacking off."

As the female watched her companion tilt his head at her, she couldn't help but feel as if she was starting to talk to herself. The more she looked at the large male, she couldn't help but catch everything about his coat. It felt like she was staring back at larger version of herself. "One of the benefits of being a loner for so long." Her life as a loner was not always the best. She was almost always chased from her feast, though she did have a few times where her meal was small enough that she had been able to snatch it in her mouth before she took off, normally at a dead run. Only when she had felt that it was safe again, did she ever stop to finish it.
Returning to the world around her, she blinked a blank look from her eyes, focusing again on the large mirror in front of her. "It hadn't been long to some, but enough to others. And since I have joined, I have joined the ranks of the ones to help provide the pack with food. The hunters." Lifting her head up again, she tried to straighten herself up as if she was trying to make herself look like she was proud of her ranking. Granite, she was. She enjoyed being a hunter and loved providing for the pack, but it also meant she still had to wait her turn to feast, feeding the rest of the pack first. Though it wasn't hard for her to do, there were still those very few days that came along so often that she wouldn't know what would have gotten into her, that she wishes she could feast first. So offering her companion to eat before her, was out of pure conscious.
"As for filling your ranking properly, I would say you are doing fairly well. Just make sure that wolves who roam here, until you are well accustomed to the pack as a whole, even with just the scent we carry, are pack wolves. Those that are not, you chose what you think is best." She tried to think of what a pack warrior was to do, but she could not think of that much since it was not her rank. She only knew her rank so well since it was what she grew up knowing, and who she was as a wolf in itself. The role of protecting the pack, she never knew. Never would. She didn't have it in her heart to do it every day. She only ever did when it was called upon and she was by herself.
After she spoke, the smaller mottled creature lowered her head again, holding it slightly tilted at him, her eyes dancing back and forth as she seemed to have been looking for something.
There had never been a time in Micah's life when he considered himself a loner. Being born in Valyn had guaranteed himself a place within their ranks for as long as he wanted. The only time he hadn't been with Valyn was after the conquest by Kairos when he made the journey here. All of that travel trying to make his way home had been his only time alone. Meeting Nimue had put an end to all of that. He never wanted to be alone for the rest of his existence, not when he could be with her. "A hunter is a very important job. I am not the best at hunting, especially not the smaller stuff." As a pup his mother had taught him to hunt by letting him chase mice and rabbits. Now that he was almost full grown he had no luck getting the faster prey. His longer legs were the only thing that gave him speed, not actual agility.
When Micah thought about what it meant for him to be a warrior he felt so lost and confused. This was the first time in his life that he had ever been responsible for himself, and for others. While he knew how to fight he had never actually had to defend anyone against anything. His teachings and lessons had been merely that, fantasy. Reality was a much colder and crueler fate. "I haven't even begun to start my duties as a warrior. I admit I have been spending a lot of time with Nimue, that or exploring." He really needed to make a point to ask Nimue exactly what she expected of him. While he would love to spend all of his time fawning over her he wanted to contribute. His skills shouldn't just go to waste. Not then he could be so useful.
The little female seemed to be looking for something, her eyes dancing back and forth between the two of them. "Is there something wrong?" He wondered if there was some dirt on his face, or even worse, a booger.

The more she seemed to look at him and listen to the words he said, the more she felt herself get antsy over nothing. He spoke maybe too fondly of Nimue, but she set that aside. Every one was fond of her in some way, simply cause she opened her home to each and everyone that seeked a safe place to call home.
Skye quickly dropped her gaze to the prey again before turning it and her head away from the larger mirrior of her coat. "Small animals are my special, easy catches, but I still enjoy the chase of larger prey when the time rises." She allowed her eyes to glance at him before they reached the ground at her paws again as she watched feathers shift slightly with wind.
What was going through her head as she looked him, searching for what was not there. She knew that much. Not many wolves searched for a timid wolf like her, so she wasn't sure why she bothered finding a companion that could maybe be more. "No, I'm sorry. I'm just...Just in awe I suppose you could say." A small tilt of her head allowed her to see him a little bit clearer as her tail tip twitched slightly, nearly curling just a little. When she straightened her head again, she kept it low, her gaze back on the ground of the marshlands. She was a fool, she knew that much. Though no matter how much she tried, she would never be as open to others as some other wolves.
Shaking her head briefly, she didn't move as her voice left her maw again, as an offer voiced itself. "If you would like, next you are hungry, I can join you for a decent hunt over something small." That, she would never pass over. She enjoyed the hunt of larger prey, but sometimes the larger prey also beat her if she hunted alone. The deer that she managed to snag the day that Silver had found her, was almost luck. Other than that one, she normally stuck with smaller prey, missing the adrenaline that would course through her during a chase. If he did wish to have a hunt when he was not fulfilling his duties, she was sure to join him.
